JBL or Yamaha 5.1 Home Theater System?
I need to decide which system to get I am between the two. I am leaning towards the Yamaha because it is cheaper and they seem to be close to the same thing. Tell me if you know any differences the two products are...

I can generally answer your question, but I can't say I have auditioned either. JBL lovers always point to the plump juicy bass. Yamaha enthusiasts love the mids to highs in music. The sound detail is what makes JBL better than Yamaha or visa versa. Neither have the lead on the other when it comes to technological innovations. However, one difference between the brands is that movie houses play JBL. Yamaha is not the king when it comes to cinema. Based on reputation JBL is the more accomplished brand when it comes to the big screen and matinee entertainment. JBL is also highly regarded as a more musical brand than most.
Depending on your choice of music it too adds up to differences. Yamaha will have scintillating highs because mid to highs are their specialty. I would imagine, high powered, high octave singers like Mariah Carey or classically trained musicians would be suitable vocals for Yamaha. JBL may light it up with jazz sets bringing out the best in the bass fiddle, french horn and big band sound. It always boils down to listening for yourself, the price point is similar between the two. The good thing is you can't lose.
