Using indoor wood stain on outdoor decks/patio?
I recently hired someone to powerwash and stain my deck. He said he would be using a very good quality oil based stain. After he was done staining, me and my husband realized that he had used the Miniwax Woodfinish generally used for indoor staining on our deck. Although, the deck doesn't look too bad, just has some shiny patches we were more worried if it would be protected enough by this stain?
Do I need to call him back and ask him to use the outdoor stain, is it possible at all now?
I would definitely call him back and ask him why he did this. He is working for you and should have consulted with you before using an indoor stain whether than the normal outdoor stains. Indoor stains aren't made to handle the harsh weather like outdoor stains are. You may over time start to notice bubbling or even fading.
