What is the best way to wire a 5.1 speaker system to a 7.1 receiver?
I have an Onkyo TX-606 receiver that is 7.1 capable. The room it is in is rather small so we only purchased a 5.1 system...the Infinity TSS-800. Should I have the left back and right back speakers wired to the "surround left" and "surround right" OR "surround left back" and "surround left right" terminals on the receiver? Also, it has a self-calibrating microphone for the speakers. Will this automatically detect that I am only using 5.1 and not send the audio signal to those missing speakers?
I guess I am afraid that audio should be playing from these missing speakers.
Also, if you have any input on my selection let me know!
Use the surround left and right. The surround back are used to finish off the 7.1 system. No need to worry about the missing speakers but it may have you set it up in the menu as 5.1 (if not, don't worry about it). I like your choices, by the way. Onkyo and infinity make good products.
