Why is digital cable look worse on a flat screen TV?
My parents recently bought a TV flat screen and connected to digital cable to it. The picture is actually worse on television that the new does regularly on their TV connected to the same box. My conspiracy theory is that it's made expressly for that people have to order HD service to get a better picture! The situation seems even worse when I screen for "Standard", which does not stretch the image.
Ah, just because the cable is "digital" does not mean the video was originally! If the image was square, not the screen, it was proably old style analog video. video is essentially digitized video 480i analog. Analog video was not great to begin with, after all, is the technology of the 1930s. The more digital sets lately tend to be larger, too. So when you put the analog video over a large screen, you maximize all the defects. Just because something is "digital" does not automatically make it better. Cable companies are in some sort of distortion of what done.
