Where can I find the best account of the Gallipoli campaign WW1?
I was commissioned to write a short story for a school in my local area of the first-person perspective of a British sailor at Gallipoli, with a couple of simple images that will make a friend. What that the final account, the most accurate and objective in this conflict? I write about the opening moments of the Gallipoli landings, and when the ANZAC troops British first loaded the beaches and in my head I'm using the model of D-Day landings in WW2, just give me an idea of the environment ... is that correct? I know it was the desert rather than temperate land, and the Turks were embarked in fortresses much higher cliff tops of the Nazi troops on the beaches of Normandy, and of course the technology was not advanced, but the mental image I a good place to start? Thank you for any serious help.
If you want "personal view" and a "mental image" you can not do better than watching the great Australian film Gallipoli. For reading, the classic account of Alan Moorehead Gallipoli.
