Stronger speakers in front or back in 4.1 speaker surround sound config?
I have rigged together a 4.1 speaker setup ( creative 2.1, and a 300 watt home stereo system using the normal audio out and rear out channels on my SB Audigy 4 card )
The smaller 2.1s provide better clarity but pack no punch ( just an overly boomy sub that is almost worthless ), and the stereo speakers could shake the whole house, but seem to have less definition.
Front as this will have a greater dynamic range than the rear channels in most cases (may be not with HD sound material but that is still doubtful). If you do not have a center speaker, all the dialogue will be matrixed in to the front speakers, you will end up with the entire rage when playing back a movie where as surround speakers are more for effects & placement rather than full range audio (even though they are capable of it with DD, dts & HD but its very rare they take FULL advantage).
