How do you become a bounty hunter/bail enforcement agent in Texas?
What exactly do I have to do to become a bounty hunter in Texas. I already have a level 3 and 4 security license and I heard you can do bounty hunter work with the level 3 license. If anyone has specific info. on this I'd appreciate it.
Thats a very tricky question, the laws regarding it are very vague. (Not necessary a bad thing.) The best thing to do is to go to PSB's website at DPS, just google the two. Also go over the Occupation code. My OPINION is that you can effect an arrest under your level 3 license if the MANAGER CONTRACTS with the bail bond SURETY, then as a lev 3 you can move to arrest, probably only in uniform. The next option is to either be a PI or a PI company manager. As a PI the company manager would still have to contract.
Sec. 1702.3863. UNAUTHORIZED CONTRACT WITH BAIL BOND SURETY; OFFENSE.
(a) A person commits an offense if the person contracts with or is employed by a bail bond
surety as defined by Chapter 1704 to secure the appearance of a person who has violated Section 38.10,
Penal Code, unless the person is:
(1) a peace officer;
(2) an individual licensed as a private investigator or the manager or a licensed
investigations company; or
(3) a commissioned security officer employed by a licensed guard company.
(b) An offense under Subsection (a) is a state jail felony.
