How much is my antique speaker worth?
I was given a set of speakers and I can't find any info on the net about them. I found out that they were made in 79-80 and that the company only made 500 of them and stopped production. I was told they are very expensive, but I would like to put a number to that because I would like to sell them. The info on the speakers themselves say; MA Audio (Micro-Acoustics Corporation) FRM-2ax Multi-Axis Loudspeaker. 914-592-7627 serial number 50262. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. I can't even find anything on EBay.
Those aren't antique. They are vintage. Built from 1979-1980 and sold for $398 a pair which was of course alot of money back then. There's a pair of FRM-2 in good condition for sale here locally(Houston craigslist)and they only want $110. They've been listed for weeks. The FRM-2 had three 1 1/4" tweeters while the FRM-2ax had two 1 1/2" tweeters. Just because Micro Acoustics only made 500 of them doesn't make them highly sought after or expensive in today's used speaker market. Although the FRM-2ax had a wider frequency response(30Hz-20kHz vs FRM-2's 40Hz-16kHz) I would still put their value closer to $100 than to $150. That's just my opinion but really a pair of speakers is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them. Just don't expect someone that knows alot about speakers to pay alot for them.
